Frequent Questions and Answers

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET MY DOG GROOMED?

As a general rule most dogs who get haircuts should be scheduled between 4 and 8 weeks. This depends on several factors including home care, coat type and desired coat length to name a few.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

Most grooming appointments can take from 3 to 4 hours for a small to medium dog, longer for larger or overweight pets. However, we do work with live animals who don't always want to cooperate or they are nervous and this takes more time. Sometimes they need a break from grooming. This is especially true of puppies and elderly pets. We want your pet to have the best grooming experience possible so we work according to their cues. If your pet has special needs we can perform an express groom for an additional fee.

CAN I PREBOOK AN APPOINTMENT?

Not only do we allow it but we encourage it! Many clients find this helpful in keeping up with their pet's grooming needs.

WHY DON'T YOU TAKE WALK-INS?

At Smooches for Pooches we like to get to know the pets in our care. This is best achieved through careful (and often creative) scheduling to ensure each pet is handled with loving care and that proper time has been allotted to allow for this. Also, walk ins take away from any previously scheduled pets who deserve our time and attention.

DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT FOR A TOENAIL TRIM?

No you do not. However, we do suggest calling right before you come in just in case we are closed or busy.

HOW OFTEN DOES MY PET NEED HIS/HER NAILS TRIMMED?

We suggest that both cats and dogs should have their nails trimmed about every 4-6 weeks in order to keep them at a short and comfortable length. Overgrown or long toenails can lead to joint problems, gait issues and unkempt nails can even grow into the fleshy pads on the feet causing sores.
